If you are ready to replace control with understanding and build a calmer, more ethical partnership with your dog — this is where the transformation begins.
Most Dog Training Focuses on Obedience.
This Course Teaches Understanding.
For decades, dog training has focused on obedience.
Sit. Stay. Heel. Control the behavior.
Traditional obedience methods often prioritize visible compliance over emotional wellbeing. The goal becomes stopping behaviors quickly - pulling, barking, jumping - without always asking why they are happening. Techniques may rely on correction, pressure, constant command-giving, or strict control of the environment.
Over time, this can create:
- More stress and tension for both dog and human
• The dog stops showing communication signals because they are ignored or corrected
• Problems often become bigger instead of being solved
• The dog may obey, but still feels insecure or unsafe
• The relationship becomes about controlling situations instead of understanding each other
When behaviour is treated as disobedience instead of communication, the underlying emotional need is often missed.
But dogs are not machines to be programmed.
They are emotional, social beings with nervous systems, needs, and a rich communication language.
If you have ever felt uncomfortable correcting your dog…
If you have noticed that more control does not necessarily create more calm…
If you want something that aligns better with your values…
This course offers a different way.
Not more control but more understanding.
Not faster responses but deeper connection.
Instead of silencing behaviour, you will learn to interpret it.
Instead of overpowering stress, you will learn to reduce it.
Instead of demanding obedience, you will build cooperation.
This is the beginning of a new relationship with your dog — one rooted in communication, emotional safety, and trust.
A Different Path Than Traditional Obedience Training
Instead of asking:
“How do I make my dog listen?”
You will begin asking:
“What is my dog trying to tell me?”
Instead of correcting behaviour, you will learn to understand it.
Instead of managing symptoms, you will explore root causes.
The Caring Human Code® Foundation Course is built on ethical, modern and science-informed understanding of:
- Canine communication
• Emotional safety
• Stress and nervous system regulation
• Trust-based relationships
It replaces a command-based way of relating to your dog with an approach built on cooperation and real communication and understanding.
This is not a small adjustment.
It is a mindset shift.
What Changes When You Truly Understand Your Dog
The result is not just “better behaviour.”
It is:
- A calmer nervous system — for both of you
• Fewer misunderstandings
• Less daily conflict
• More predictability and safety
• A stronger emotional bond
Many participants describe this course as a turning point.
The moment they stop trying to control — and start truly seeing their dog.
Rooted in Scandinavian Values and Original Calming Signals
The Caring Human Code® is Nordic Dog Trainer’s original framework and teaching method, developed and taught exclusively within our education programs.
It is grounded in Scandinavian values of respect, equality, social responsibility, and cooperation, combined with a deep understanding of dogs’ calming signals - the natural communication system.
Since 2012, Nordic Dog Trainer has taught and worked with thousands of dog caretakers and professionals. Through many years of teaching and practical experience, this knowledge has been developed into a structured framework we call The Caring Human Code®, that helps dog guardians understand dogs through communication, emotional safety, and ethical responsibility.
Unlike traditional training programs that focus on techniques and commands, The Caring Human Code® begins with observation, awareness, and understanding. It teaches you to see the dog as a communicating, feeling individual and to respond in ways that support trust, cooperation, and wellbeing.
This framework is unique to Nordic Dog Trainer and represents a fundamentally different approach to living and working with dogs - one that moves beyond obedience and focuses on communication, relationship, and responsible care.
At its core lies the original understanding of calming signals, first identified by the Norwegian dog trainer Turid Rugaas and presented in her influential book On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals. For more than 30 years, her work and her book have been known worldwide and have played a major role in changing how people understand canine communication and behaviour.
In this course, calming signals are taught as a complete communication system — not as a simplified checklist.
You learn:
- Signals as a full language
• How to respond in ways that reduce stress
• How communication connects to emotional safety
• How to apply the knowledge in real life
Very few courses teach this knowledge with real depth and continuity, and we are the only one teaching the original calming signals as developed by Turid Rugaas. The course includes Turid’s own personal lecture explaining calming signals and how they function as a natural communication system in dogs.
What You Will Learn

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous experience with dogs to take this course?
No. This course is designed for dog guardians at all experience levels.
Many participants join because they feel confused by the many different training methods available. The course explains dog communication and behaviour in a clear and easy-to-understand way, so you can start applying the knowledge immediately in everyday life.
My dog has behavioural problems. Will this course help?
This course helps you understand the underlying reasons behind behaviour.
Many common challenges — such as pulling on the leash, barking, reactivity, or restlessness — are often connected to stress, misunderstanding, or unmet needs. By learning how dogs communicate and how emotions influence behaviour, many guardians experience fewer conflicts and a calmer everyday life.
However, this is not a quick-fix program. It focuses on long-term understanding rather than instant solutions.
Is this course based on science?
Yes. The course is based on modern knowledge about canine behaviour, stress, emotional regulation, and welfare.
It also builds on the original work of Turid Rugaas, whose research and observations of calming signals changed the global understanding of dog communication. Her internationally known book On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals has influenced dog professionals worldwide.

Not exactly.
While the approach is kind and ethical, the focus of this course is not primarily on reward-based training techniques. Instead, it focuses on communication, emotional safety, observation, and relationship as the foundation for living with dogs.
Many participants discover that when communication improves, the need for constant training becomes much smaller.
Will my dog become obedient after this course?
The goal of this course is not obedience — it is understanding and cooperation.
Many dogs become calmer and easier to live with when their needs and communication are understood. But the focus is not on teaching tricks or strict commands. It is about creating a relationship built on trust and communication.
How much time do I need each week?
The course is intentionally designed to reduce stress and pressure.
You can watch the short lectures whenever it suits you, and many participants spend 1–2 hours per week engaging with the material. Because you have access to the course for one full year, you can move at a pace that fits your life.
What if I miss the live Q&A sessions?
All six Q&A sessions are recorded and available inside the course portal.
You can watch them later and still benefit from the questions and discussions from other participants.

Understanding communication, emotional safety, and natural behaviour is relevant whether you have a puppy, an adult dog, or a senior dog.
